Naan - Flat Bread

Naan is a leavened, oven-baked or tawa-fried flatbread, which is found in the cuisines mainly of Iran, Afghanistan, Central Asia, the Indian subcontinent, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, and the Caribbean.

Recipe Ingredients:

  • 2 cups plain flour

  • 2 tbsp natural yogurt (or Greek yogurt)

  • 1 tsp dry yeast

  • ¼ cup oil/ melted butter

  • ¼ cup warm milk

  • Salt to taste

Recipe Method:

  • Combine all the ingredients in a deep bowl, knead well & make dough. Cover the dough with a lid, and leave it in a warm place to rise for 20 minutes to 2 hours.

  • Knead the dough again. Make small balls out of it. Roll out the balls into tear drop shaped flat breads.

  • Now preheat the grill, and place a pizza stone under it. When the stone is hot enough, lower the

  • grill temperature, and place the flat bread on the stone. Cook.

  • Alternatively, you can also cook them on the stove top.


Notes:

  • For glazing, brush the flat breads with melted butter just before serving.

  • To make garlic naan, combine melted butter and garlic, and brush the flat breads with it.
